This article describes the properties of the Farm Financial Simulation Model (FFSM). FFSM is a tool for analyzing the financial consequences of various managerial strategies and policy options that may be implemented in responding to farm financial stress. Various farm types from different geographical regions having differing enterprises, financial structures, tenure arrangements, and consumption patterns can be analyzed. The emphasis of FFSM is placed on modeling a farm's profitability, liquidity, solvency, and financial position and the model produces a coordinated set of financial statements and an extensive set of financial ratios over a four-year period. |

On comparing Australian collections of Jagera javanica (Blume) Kalkman with Malesian material, I was struck by some slight but constant differences in the flower. This led me to the recognition of a new subspecies, as follows: Jagera javanica (Blume) Kalkman, Blumea 7 (1953) 470 subsp. australiana Leenh., subsp. nov. Folia 9-15-jugata. Petala intus squama lata incurvata dense villosa 2 cristis grandiusculis latis glabris ornata instructa. Filamenta staminum plene dense candide villosa. – Typus: B. Gray 1455, Queensland, Cook Dist., Little Mossman, State Forest Res. 143, 16° 32' S, 145° 22' E, male fl. (BRI; iso in L, QRS). |

The first Western Palearctic record of a Red-footed Booby Sula sula (L., 1766), a brown whitetailed morph observed on Cima (Cape Verde Islands), is described. The status of this species in the tropical South Atlantic Ocean is evaluated. At present, Fernando de Noronha is the only South Atlantic stronghold of the species (ca. 4000 individuals; cf. Oren, 1984). The species has disappeared, or almost so, from other islands (St. Helena: absent; Ascension:0-30 individuals; Ilha da Trindade: less than 100 pairs). A link may exist between the apparent recent increase of the population of Fernando de Noronha and the apparent recent decline of the Trindade population. It seems possible that the Trindade population for some unknown reason has migrated to Fernando de... |

Bunodes biscayensis Fischer, 1874, a species of Actiniaria described from Moulleau, Arcachon, south-western coast of France, and never recorded since, was rediscovered in July 1985 and found again in 1986 and 1987 in several localities along the French "Côte Basque" between the mouth of the river Adour and St. Jean-de-Luz. The species is here redescribed and referred to Bunodosoma Verrill, 1899, a genus of tropical and subtropical Atlantic and West-American intertidal and shallow water forms, hitherto not recorded from the Mediterranean and/or the Atlantic coast of Europe. Speculations are advanced as to the possible further distribution of B. biscayensis. A discussion is added concerning the morphological terms verruca and vesicle. The study is completed... |
